On May 1, 2022, the national standard GB/T 28004.1-2021 "Diapers Part 1: Baby diapers" (hereinafter referred to as the "new standard") was formally implemented. In this more than a year, domestic baby diaper manufacturers actively implement the new national standard. Jiang Huashu, president of the National Institute of Mother and Child Industry, said that the quality and comfort of domestic baby diapers under the new national standard have both improved, and the standard of domestic baby diapers is now at a leading level compared with the international standard!
Jiang Huashu, president of the National Institute of Mother and Child Industry, said that the old standard for the detection of baby diapers includes four technical indicators: size deviation, penetration performance, pH value and delivery moisture. The deviation is divided into total length deviation, full width deviation and strip quality deviation. The permeability is divided into the amount of slip infiltration, the amount of reinfiltration and the amount of leakage.
The new standard stipulates seven indexes, such as quality deviation, permeability (absorption rate, reinfiltration amount, leakage amount), pH value, surface seepage, impurities, anti-side leakage performance index, and delivery moisture. The new standard also adds safety indicators such as heavy metals, portable fluorescent substances, acrylamide, formaldehyde, phthalates, decomposed carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes, which help to improve the quality and safety of domestic baby diapers and protect the health of infants and young children.
The new standard adds performance indicators such as surface adhesion, anti-side leakage performance, and impurities, and modifies the permeability measurement method, in order to further improve the applicability of the standard and pay more attention to the comfort of the product.
Jiang Huashu, president of the National Institute of Mother and Infant Industry, said that the new national standard has modified the method for determining the penetration performance of baby diapers. Compared with the old standard, the new method has the following advantages: 1) the design is closer to the actual use; 2) Can better reflect the absorption performance of the product; 3) Good repeatability, easy operation, automatic filling, timing, small human error factor, more accurate test results.
Jiang Huashu, president of the National Institute of Mother and Infant Industry, said that for baby diapers, consumers are generally worried about "recycled materials", "leakage" and red butt problems. Infant diapers may not be produced using recycled raw materials, but in the market, there are still illegal businesses to recycle diapers, crush and reuse raw materials such as superabsorbent resins. The new standard adds impurities to limit the use of recycled materials at source.
Jiang Huashu, president of the National Institute of Mother and Infant Industry, said that the standard of baby diapers in China is now at a leading level compared with the international standard! Starting from improving the safety and comfort of baby diapers, the new standard provides a unified basis for the evaluation of baby diapers by detecting the residual amount of pollutants in products and increasing the evaluation method of performance. The technical level of standard indicators is basically in line with relevant foreign standards and regulations, and is at the international advanced level.
From the test results of the product and the investigation of the domestic baby diaper production enterprises, the current excellent domestic diapers have made great progress in the development of new materials and product design, and the performance is no longer compared with international imported baby diapers.
